Clooney: Biden Must Save Democracy Again And Step Down
WASHINGTON - Cinema for Peace honoree George Clooney has asked his President to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race, stating that he saved democracy in 2020 and shall do the same in 2024 by stepping down.
Clooney's comments followed a period of growing concern within the Democratic Party about Biden’s viability. In an op-ed for the New York Times, Clooney stated, "The president had won many battles in his career, but the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time." He expressed that Biden was not the same as he was in past years, noting, "He wasn’t even the Joe Biden of 2020." Clooney added that the president’s performance at recent events, including a debate with Donald Trump, was troubling.
The controversy intensified after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi hinted that time was "running short" for Biden to decide on his candidacy following a poor debate performance.
During a recent NATO summit, President Joe Biden made a notable verbal slip when he mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as "President Putin" before quickly correcting himself. The gaffe occurred as Biden was praising NATO's strength and introducing Zelensky, causing audible gasps from the audience of diplomats and world leaders.
Clooney criticized the Democratic leadership's denial of these concerns, writing, "Our party leaders need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn’t see what we just saw." He argued that Biden's age was a critical factor, claiming, "We are not going to win in November with this president."
A recent poll conducted by the Democratic firm Bendixen & Amandi reveals that Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton currently have a better chance against former President Donald Trump than President Joe Biden. A recent poll reveals a tight race between Trump and Biden, with Trump leading. However, when paired against Trump, Harris and Clinton fare slightly better, with Harris leading 42% to 41% and Clinton leading 43% to 41%
Cinema for Peace hosted Hillary Clinton this year in Berlin and has suggested recently to upgrade Joe Biden to a "President at Large," a role akin to Steinmeier in Germany, where he would hold moral but no political power. Hillary Rodham Clinton and Kamala Harris - both distinguished Cinema for Peace honorees and laudation speakers - could run together against Donald Trump, drawing inspiration from Reagan and Ford's intended double ticket against Jimmy Carter in 1976. The chairman of Cinema for Peace Jaka Bizilj said: “If Joe Biden presents such decision together with the likes of Michelle and Barack Obama and Bill Clinton in July, Hilary Clinton and Kamala Harris may take responsibility to save the free world from the risk of tyranny, our nuclear protection by NATO and win over Donald Trump - a convicted criminal, who has refused to commit to accepting the results of the elections and has alarmingly suggested to become a dictator for one day - or forever?”
